United Way Early Childhood Coordinator
United
Way of Wexford-Missaukee Counties was recently awarded a special grant
from the Great Start Collaborative to fund a part time early childhood
coordinator. The Born Learning Coordinator will work to strengthen the
network of services and to increase the impact of existing early childhood
programs.
Murder
on Mitchell Street!
A
murder mystery dinner to benefit United Way and sponsored by the Cadillac
Industrial Group (CAIG) is scheduled for Saturday, February 27 from
6-9 p.m. at the Elk's Lodge downtown Cadillac.
Live
performances by Jodi Hathaway and Michael Kasiborski of TV 9 &10
News will be part of the fun as guests enjoy the 1920's era style mystery.

Celebrate
The 800 Number!
A Community
Celebration was held at the Cadillac City Park on Thursday, July 30
at 5 p.m. in recognition of the many supporters
who have made
it possible for Wexford County to begin Phase 2 of the 2-1-1 Initiative.
Phase One has been completed by the Chamber Leadership Class. Phase
One completed securing financial support for one year and committments
for three years by many community businesses and the population of
the 2-1-1 database. The launching of an 800 Number precedes the actual
2-1-1 number as final organizational procedures take
place. Expected start for 2-1-1 calling is by 2010. All of Michigan
is working toward statewide coverage of 2-1-1 by 2011!

Child Safety Expo- September 11
Volunteers
needed for many areas at the Child Safety Expo downtown Cadillac on
Friday, September 11. Lots of fun safety stations and food. Call Diane

Volunteers Needed! Youth
mentors, Foster Grandparents, Senior Companions, and the Prisoner Re-entry
Initiative are programs that make a significant difference to people's
lives and change our world! YOU can be that difference by mentoring.

The
United Way/Red Cross Medical Transportation Program is in urgent need
- Volunteer
drivers. This program supported by United
Way of Wexford County provides needed transportation to people in need
for medical appointments. Volunteer drivers receive a mileage reimbursement.

Volunteer
as a Team for a Day of Caring! - Volunteer
teams are encouraged to sign up to participate in Caring Projects for
local needs. Non
profit agencies with identified needs can be connected with your team
of volunteers for a day of action and impact. Call the United Way office
to find out how your group can help.
Shepherd's
Table Outreach- Volunteers
are always appreciated on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Shepherd's Table
from 4p.m to 7 p.m. to help serve hot meals. Call Daniel Collins, Benefits
Coordinator at the First Baptist Church if you can help.
Child
Protection Council -Get
involved in our community's child abuse prevention council aimed at
education and awareness. Meetings are open to all community members
willing to help. Call the UW office for the meeting schedule. Monthly
meetings are held on the second Friday of the month from 8:30 -10:00
a.m. at the Council On Aging Meeting Room downtown Cadillac.

Prescription Discount Cards available now!
Free
prescription drug discount cards to assist people who do not have prescription
insurance with the cost of their prescription drugs are available at
the United Way office at 117 W. Cass Cadillac. Most pharmacies in the
United States accept these prescription drug discount cards.They have
no usage limits, age requirements, or registration forms. People can
also print a card by visiting the website: www.familywize.com.!
Over
800 prescription claims were able to save over $13,000. in one month
alone to families in Wexford County. The average savings was 38.36%.
United Way of Wexford County was listed as one of the top 21 counties
in the amount saved for the month of December. United Way would like
to recognize all of our area pharmacies for their partnership in helping
families save money on their medications.
The
cards are being distributed free of charge, courtesy of United Way of
Wexford County and 270 other United Way agencies around the country
in 47 states, as part of a $50 million national, in-kind donation of
discount prescriptioncards coordinated by Membership Services Corporation,
located in Bethlehem, PA, and its industry partners.
